Quick Hitter April

Welcome to the April Quick Hitter

Park Deliveries

It's that time of year, parks and municipalities are lining up for service, and this year we're stepping up our game. This spring, P&D drivers, your decision-making is crucial. Placement isn't just important, it's everything. While park staff may ask for units in spots that suit their patrons, you know what works best for access and safety.

As the delivery driver, you’re the expert on the ground. Make sure every unit is placed where it can be reached within 30 feet by a standard pumper truck—no exceptions. If someone requests a unit deep in a field or anywhere inaccessible, push back immediately. Take photos, document the situation, and send them to dispatch. We’ll handle the rest, coordinating directly with the customer to secure a smarter, safer location.

Take charge, make the call, and keep our operations running strong.

Serpentine Belt Issues

Before leaving the yard each morning, take a moment during your pre-trip inspection to check the serpentine belt on your truck. Several of our newer Hino trucks have recently experienced belt issues where the belt begins to crack or split, which can quickly lead to a breakdown.

If a serpentine belt fails while you're on route, the truck can become inoperable, potentially leaving you stranded for hours while waiting for a tow truck. A quick visual check for fraying, cracking, or splitting can help us catch the problem early and prevent downtime.

If you notice anything unusual, report it to maintenance or dispatch immediately before leaving the yard. Taking a minute to inspect it now can save hours of delay later. Let’s stay Determined to Deliver and keep our trucks moving.

QR Training Decals

We’ve got something new rolling out to help you in the field. Soon, you’ll start seeing new QR Training Decals installed inside the TP boxes on all of our trucks. These decals feature scannable QR codes that give you instant access to some of our most used training videos.

Need a quick refresher on servicing an RV? A restroom trailer? A ProFlush system? It’s all right there, along with pump troubleshooting tips designed to help you solve problems faster. This tool puts the information you need exactly where you need it, in your truck, on demand.

Keep an eye out. They’ll be arriving at your branch soon.

How to Use a Rivet Gun

Before using the rivet gun, the first step is making sure you have the correct size tip installed. Our rivets are larger than standard sizes, so we need to use the largest attachment. To switch it out, loosen the current tip just enough so you can remove it by hand. Take the tip that’s currently in the handle and move it to the end. Then place the largest tip into the handle where it belongs. Hand-tighten it first, then use pliers to snug it down the rest of the way. It doesn’t need to be overly tight, just secure enough so it won’t loosen during use. Now the rivet gun is set up with the correct size for our rivets.

To begin using the rivet gun, open the handles fully. Line up the pieces you’re fastening together and make sure the holes align properly. If they don’t, you may need to drill them out to ensure proper fitment.

With the gun open, insert the rivet into the tip. Start with the top hole of the component you’re securing. Hold the rivet gun straight and flush against the surface, at a 90-degree angle, to ensure a proper set.

Then begin squeezing the handles together. You’ll likely need to open and close the handles multiple times. Continue applying steady pressure until you hear or feel the mandrel snap. Once it snaps, the back of the rivet will be smooth and fully seated. The broken mandrel will remain inside the gun, remove it and dispose of it properly.

Repeat this process for each rivet location. If a rivet doesn’t fit properly, drill the hole slightly to allow it to seat correctly. Always keep the tool straight, apply consistent pressure, and continue squeezing until the pin releases. And that’s it, proper setup, correct angle, steady pressure, and repeat until complete.
